The Bronzing Lotion:
I knew the day would come to share my bronzing routine and how to make a homemade bronzing lotion that makes you appear both slimmer and healthier. Darker, tanner skin always appears healthier but tanning, as we all know, is not ideal.
As much as I love researching health-related topics, I’m also a real girly-girl and can’t resist talking about shimmery body products so It was only a matter of time before I posted my completely natural good-for-your-skin bronzing lotion recipe.
About This Recipe:
I’ve been making this lotion since as long as I can remember. It all started back in high school when pale, freckly gingers were the most uncool thing ever. Every summer I would wear a semi-permanent disguise of self-tanning lotions or creams, in hopes that it could hide my true gingerness. Unfortunately, all that would happen is I would turn 50 shades of orange and smell really bad. Nevermind the permanently orange hands and occasional blotches everywhere.
But if you’d rather just buy almond flour, it’s readily available online through amazon.
“My pharmacy background really helped its creation”
Over the years I have improved this recipe, constantly finding better ways for it to absorb into the skin, or apply evenly on the surface, or stop rubbing off on clothing. I’ve made its coverage better to hide veins and cellulite. I’ve even upped the waterproof factor and with every addition or change I’ve noticed it’s lustrous shine gets better and better. My pharmacy background really helped its creation too. Understanding how, and what, mixes together and knowing what to add for the desired effect.
Ingredients
The recipe will make 200mls:
- Shea butter 5g
- Avo butter 5g
- coconut oil 5g
- Urea 2.5g
- glycerine 2.5mls
- shimmer powder: pinch or half Lotion base 20mls
- Water 160mls
- Brown dye/pigment: enough for desired colour
- Perfume 5mls per bottle (added into your bottle at the end)
Step by Step Instructions:
1.
Weigh out the first 8 ingredients and combine in a pot on the stove.
2.
Heat the ingredient on low until everything has melted and combined, but not boiling.
3.
Pour in the dye, put the lid on the bottle and shake until the pigment is mixed in.. You’ll need to shake every now and again as the mixture cools to ensure the pigment mixes in evenly as the cream thickens
4.
Pour the now cool mixture into the end-product bottles or jars. Pour in 5mls perfume and stir to combine.

Tips for Proper Application:
Always wear gloves Because of the constant massaging action you’ll land up having the bronzes hands you’ve ever seen, if you don’t wear gloves. Then you’ll spend so much time getting it off your hands, rather just wear the gloves.
Exfoliate weekly and moisturise skin daily Just like with self tan creams, bronzing creams will show up dry areas or problem dry patches. So make sure you always have a smooth complexion by exfoliating and moisturising.
Regular cream applied daily to ‘dry’ areas. Elbows wrists under arms knees ankles knuckles.. Same reason as above.
Wipe off excess with a dark towel or mitten to make sure no excess lotion comes off on your clothes when or if you sweat. Make sure to wipe under your arms and in creases.
