Health Benefits Of Homemade Body Scrubs
This delicious, dessert range of homemade body scrubs gently exfoliates and hydrates the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and soft. The base is sugar mixed with massaging oils and other great ingredients with health benefits. I decided on sugar vs salt because it’s gentler on the skin and more hydrating but for oilier skin swop out the sugar for salt.
Did I mention all 5 scrubs are completely EDIBLE and can be used when baking or flavouring drinks! Simply add them into any recipe requiring sugar by substituting the amount of sugar needed for the exact quantity of scrub. I’ve done this when baking biscuits, muffins, flavouring hot chocolates, and even for creating pouring sauces for desserts and ice-creams.
While they’re making you look and feel better, they’re also working on some other issues you may have, including cellulite, dry flaky skin or even bigger skin conditions.
Certain of the ingredients, such as the caffeine in the coffee grinds, will increase blood flow and circulation to areas that need it, as with diabetics and their lower legs and feet.
These body scrubs help a condition called keratosis pilaris. I know it sounds unusual and you’re almost 100% sure you don’t have it but it’s actually more common than you’d think. You know those little bumps that form on the back of the arms? This is usually caused by dead skin cells blocking the hair follicles. Doing a regular body scrub at least twice a week will help smooth away that bumpy skin layer.
How To Use A Body Scrub
Take a handful of body scrub granules and gently rub into your skin in a circular motion. concentrate on harder skin areas like elbows, knees and feet, as well as cellulite prone areas like the upper thighs. Be very gently on sensitive areas like the neck and décolletage.
leave the scrub on the surface of the skin for about a minute for the other beneficial ingredients to soak in (caffeine/aroma oils) before washing off. Immediately after drying yourself consider applying a body moisturising cream or lotion to lock in the moisture. If you’re interested in having a glamorous bronzed look check out my bronzing lotion that can be applied straight after.
Her skin is naturally glowing
Body Scrubs get rid of the dead layer of skin lying on the top surface of your body, when scrubbing that layer off, your skin naturally ‘glows’. this is one of the contributors to beautiful looking skin. Keep in mind diet and hormones are two other factors for a healthy complexion, but let’s agree this one is by far the easiest to accomplish.
5 Best Homemade Body Scrub Recipes:
1. Death by Chocolate Body Scrub
If you’re tempted to taste any of these homemade body scrubs this would be the one. The combination of chocolate with spices and coconut oil gives it that real dessert vibe.
Combine cocoa powder (handful), with a pinch of cinnamon and a splash of vanilla essence. Mix with an equal quantity of brown sugar and blend it all together with a spoonful of coconut oil. When mixed, the granules are moist but still granular so very little oil is needed. If your mixture is more paste-like, just add more sugar.
2. Peppermint Foot Scrub
For this recipe I use real peppermint leaves with white sugar and coconut oil. blend it all together using a food blender to ensure the peppermint leaves are chopped up real fine. If your peppermint doesn’t have a radiant enough colour or smell you’re welcome to add in some peppermint essence/flavouring and green food colouring to give it that real pepperminty look. This recipe is absolutely amazing for those tired and overworked feet. At the end of a long, hot day it will leave your feet feeling fresh and tingly.
Keep in mind this recipe must be stored in the fridge and used within a week, due to the peppermint leaves used. If you need it to last longer completely omit the leaves and use peppermint essence with green colourant as an alternative. You could even do a green version and white version and alternate layers in a clear glass jar.
3. Coffee Body Scrub
The simplest but most favourable body scrub has to the coffee scrub. Only two ingredients needed, coffee grains and olive oil. When combined, will diminish cellulite and give you the ultimate radiant skin. Either take used coffee grains from a perculator/coffee machine/ or pods and combine with olive oil, or for an edible version, take instant coffee granules and mix with coconut oil, pinch of cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar.
There is a dual action from using coffee granules in a body scrub. The granules themselves exfoliate the surface of the skin, increasing circulation and plumbing it up and the caffeine from the granules has a tightening effect on the skin. Both actions help with cellulite reduction by making cellulite look less obvious.
4. Creamy Coconut Chai Sugar Scrub
Ginger, cinnamon, cardamon, nutmeg and cloves are the spices used to make a chai spice mix. When added with brown sugar, desiccated coconut flakes and blend with coconut oil it gives and excellent exfoliation (from all the different sized granules). The spices will also give your skin a glowing complexion. Ginger also helps sooth sore muscles.
5. Detoxing Lemon Lavender Body Scrub
With this recipe I blended white sugar with lemon rind, a squeeze of lemon, lavender flowers and a dash of olive oil. Often our skin overproduces sebum (your skin’s natural oil) to compensate for dryness, this leads to clogged pores and acne formation.
Lavender oil is both moisturising and antibacterial therefore killing bacteria that penetrates pores while keeping the skins natural oils balanced. This makes lavender oil perfect for preventing and also healing acne. Lemon is a natural detoxifier and a natural bleaching agent so it will help fade age spots.
Together lemon and lavender are quite a powerful combination for problem skin. Be sure to scrub very gently over acne areas or just apply as a thin mask on an acne area rather than scrubbing. Harsh scrubbing may open up acne areas and in spread the acne further.
